Laying the "Miquelot" in Evrecy, April 2023

Evrecy, Sunday 23 April 2023 saw the inauguration of the statue of the Miquelot, installed in front of the parish church, echoing that of Saint-Sever-Calvados, placed in June 2022 in front of the Severine abbey church. These two works, produced by the IME fonderie de Vire, refer to the passage of the Miquelots along this ancient Roman road from Vieux to Avranches, and in particular to the pilgrims from Rouen at the end of the 10th century, mentioned in a text from that period.
This route now serves as the base for the signposted Caen to Mont route. The inauguration was organised by the Commune d'Evrecy after Sunday mass at 11.45am, in conjunction with the parish and the commune, and was followed by a friendly drink in the neighbouring parish hall.
This is an opportunity to rediscover the thousand-year-old origins of this path and the church of Notre-Dame d'Evrecy, which was the successor to a Merovingian monastery, some precious sculpted features of which remain.
